October 31st

  • New Martinsville Fire Fighters responded to a fire Friday afternoon at 758 North Main Street.  Arriving units found the home to be heavily charges with a thick black smoke and quickly discovered that the fire, in the laundry room of the home, had been extinguished as a result of the fire burning through the supply hoses of the clothes washer.

    It wasn’t the first time that we seen this happen said NMVFD Fire Chief, Larry Couch.  Its been nearly 20-years since the last time I could say that the homes plumbing saved the house but, in this case it not only saved the home but likely prevented damage to neighboring homes as well.

October 27th

  • A fire on a stove resulted in a New Martinsville Home being destroyed and closing WV Route #2 for nearly three hours.  The call for the fire was received by Wetzel County 911 at 3:43 PM, in which the 911 operator reported being able here the crackling of the fire in the background and advised the occupant to evacuate the home.        Click here for the full press release.

October 22nd

  • NMFD units assist the Paden City Fire Company with a landing zone for a medivac helecopter at Magnolia Football field.

  • EMS units respond for lifting assistance on oil ridge using brush 208 to extract the patient due to the rough terrain.

October 18th

  • The New Martinsville Fire Departments Fire Prevention Program is in full swing.  Hundreds of children and adults have already been through the program at both the New Martinsville School and the Wetzel County Center for Families and Children. 

October 16th

  • Pictures from this summers Driver/Pump Operator class have been added to the training page.

October 15th

  • NMVFD members are called to Route 180 on River hill for a two vehicle automobile accident.

October 14th

  • Company 2 units to respond to Route 2 in Proctor for a motorcycle versus car accident in front of the Competition Lounge.  Units from both station 218 and 219 responded for both extrication and EMS.

  • Company 2 units to a vehicle roll over on Route 7 near Steele Construction. 

October 12th

  • New Martinsville Fire Department EMS units respond to the New Martinsville Health Care Center.

  • Company 2 is called to the Verizon building to investigate a fire alarm activation.

October 9th

  • Company 2 volunteers remain busy on Wednesday with 2 automobile accidents and an EMS call for service.

October 8th

  • The New Martinsville Fire Department has been awarded a Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Grant “CEDAP” for new hydraulic rescue tools.  The grant has a value of nearly $40,000.

    CEDAP is sponsored by the United States Department of Homeland Security, Office of State and Local Government Coordination & Preparedness (SLGCP). It is designed to assist smaller communities in acquiring and using commercially available equipment to prevent, deter, and respond to terrorist attacks, as identified in state homeland security strategies and to be better able to respond to more typical daily emergencies.

    We’re very excited about the awarding of this grant, said Larry Couch, NMVFD Fire Chief.  On the heels of a State based allocation of nearly $80,000 worth of hazardous materials, personal protective equipment, this second grant award helps to better equip the department in serving the community through the up-grading of equipment. October 7th

  • Fire Safety month is here already and New Martinsville Volunteers are busy conducting fire safety training to local children.  If you would like more information with regard to our fire safety programs, please email Joey Smith at fireprevention@fdnm.org.

  • There will be a NIMS 300 Class at New Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday and Sunday, October 18th & 19th, 2008.  Click here for complete details.

October 6th

  • The New Martinsville Fire Department responded to a structure fire 1/2 mile out Doolin Run Road.  A quick attack snuffed the fire and prevented further damage to the structure.  Paden City Company 4 and the Sardis VFD also responded and were a great help.

September 26th

  • The New Martinsville Fire Department has received nearly $80,000 worth of equipment from the WV Department of Military Affairs, Office of the State Fire Marshal, through an equipment distribution program that allocates the equipment to be “pre-positioned” in key locations throughout the state. Doolin Run Road Kitchen Fire

September 15th

  • The high winds from a storm system that was once hurricane “Ike” caused minor damage to power lines and trees throughout the area Sunday, September 14th.  The New Martinsville Fire Department responded to reports of trees down in the roadway on Doolin Road and in Proctor, while there were power line issue’s at the following locations:  North Bridge Street between Mensore Distributing and H & R Block, 500 James Street at the Intersection with West Thistle Drive, behind 291 Locust Street.  Click here for the complete Press Release.

  • The trophy for the "Gail Ash" Award is at the Station 218, check-it-out & thanks to everyone who helped make it a reality.

September 12th

  • Ladder 203 and Engine 207 respond to the Verizon Building to investigate an audible fire alarm.  No cause for the alarm was found.

  • EMS Unit's respond to the report of chest pain and transport one patient to the hospital.

September 10th

  • Company 2 responds to a two vehicle MVA on WV Route 2 at the Mayo's intersection.

September 8th

  • There will be a required In-service Training for EMT's on the new DATA ENTRY system for EMS Run Forms (Alias: Electronic Run Forms) Monday, September 8th, 2008 at 6:00 PM at the Ohio Street Station.  This training is voluntary for anyone other than EMT's.

September 7th

  • Company 2 EMS responds to multiple calls throughout the day.

  • Company 2 responds to the New Martinsville Health Care Center for a false fire alarm.

September 4th

  • Fire Chief Larry Couch announced today that Captain Cris Jenkins has been promoted to the position of Assistant Fire Chief.  The promotion of Lieutenant Steve Yoho to Captain was additionally announced today.

September 2nd

  • The NMFD responds to an infant locked in a vehicle with the engine off.

  • Company 2 responds to assist Paden City Fire Company & Sistersville EMS in the evacuation of a Patient from her home after a fall on Oil Ridge using the dept’s ATV (Brush 208).

  • Volunteers remain busy on Monday responding to a structure fire on American Ridge.

August 30th

  • The NMFD responds to the Verizon building on WV State Route 2 for a false fire alarm activation.

  • Company 2 EMS  responds to Paden City for an unconscious victim.

August 29th

  • Company 2 remains busy again overnight with two automobile accidents.

August 28th

  • Company 2 responds mutual aid to assist Grandview Company 3 with a structure fire.

August 27th

  • Engine 209 and Rescue 204 respond to WV Route 2 at North Street for a two vehicle collision.

August 26th

  • EMS units respond to the Health Care Center.

  • New Martinsville Company 2 provides scene safety and traffic control for a disabled tractor trailer on WV Route 2 North.  

August 25th

  • Company 2 Volunteers respond to the New Martinsville Health Care Center for a false fire alarm.

  • The Fire Department EMS units respond out Route 7 for an automobile accident.

August 18th

August 15th

  • NMVFD recently added 4-new UHF (400mhz) radios to its “front-line” fire apparatus.  The new radio now make it so that the fire department can directly communicate with all agencies, public and private, on both sides of the Ohio River.  Click here for the complete Press Release or visit the Press Release page.

  • The New Martinsville Fire Department responds to Newman Ridge off WV Route 89 to assist the Grandview Fire Department with a trailer fire.

  • A Friday morning fire alarm activation at the New Martinsville Health Care Center brings Company 2 out to investigate.

July 22nd

  • A severe thunderstorm complex wreaked havoc on the New Martinsville Area Tuesday Morning sending the New Martinsville Fire Department to a total of 12-calls in less than 2-hours.    Press Release

July 18th

  • New Martinsville Fire Fighters, Police, Tyler County OES Personnel and the Wetzel County Sheriffs Department continued their search in Fishing Creek at the New Martinsville Marina Friday morning at 8:00 AM and at 11:37 AM, an NMVFD Diver was able to recover the body of a local man.

     

    The incident began at 6:06 PM Thursday, when Wetzel County E-911 received a call of a person who had dove into the water off of the pier at the Marina and never resurfaced.  Wetzel County EMS, New Martinsville Fire & Police along with Paden City Fire Fighters and the Wetzel County Sheriffs Department worked until after dark Thursday evening, in an effort to recover the man.

July 16th

  • The New Martinsville Fire Department responds to a two vehicle automobile accident on Route 2 in front of J.W. Potts.  Also responding were New Martinsville PD and Wetzel County EMS.

  • The report of two unconscious jet skier's on the Ohio River sends Company 2 on a search for victim's along the river shore behind the old 84 Lumber Yard.  An exhaustive search by the Fire Department, Police Department and EMS units turns up no victims.

  • New Martinsville Company 2 is hosting a 40 hour Driver/Pump Operator class.  Photographs from this event will be available on the training page in the next couple of days.  The class, which began Saturday and completes tomorrow, is going very well.  Units from New Martinsville, Folsom,  and Wallace are attending and being instructed by New Martinsville Fire Chief Larry Couch.
